Why we’re bringing the People’s Emergency Briefing to Climate Expo
At Climate Expo, we want to give people more than a busy day of speakers, exhibitors and conversations. We also want to create space to step away from the immediate pressures of the working day and understand some of the bigger changes that could shape the decisions organisations make next.
That is why this year we are offering delegates the opportunity to watch the People’s Emergency Briefing during the Expo.
The film brings together leading UK experts to explain the risks associated with climate and nature breakdown and what these could mean for areas including food security, health, the economy and the systems we rely upon.
For businesses and other organisations, these are not abstract environmental issues. They increasingly connect to questions of resilience, business continuity, supply chains, infrastructure, workforce and future planning.
We know how difficult it can be to find time to engage properly with issues that sit beyond the pressures of today. By screening the film during Climate Expo, during the working day, we are giving delegates the opportunity to take that time: to hear the evidence, reflect on what it could mean for their organisation and then continue those conversations with the people and organisations gathered at the Expo.
It fits closely with what Climate Expo is there to provide: perspective, connections and practical ideas that can help organisations prepare for what comes next.
And the conversation does not have to end at the Expo.
The People’s Emergency Briefing campaign is increasingly encouraging organisations to take the film directly into workplaces, with dedicated guidance available to help employers host screenings and discussions with their own teams.
We hope our screenings at Climate Expo might therefore be a starting point — giving people the opportunity to watch the Briefing themselves, before considering whether it is a conversation worth taking back into their own organisation.
